MARIE KIYONE

SAMIT Event Group presents the esteemed Japanese pianist Marie Kiyone for an exclusive concert at Dubai Opera Studio, organised as part of the VIP Classical initiative on 24 September 2023.  Kiyone will start with three works from Frédéric Chopin, beginning with the Barcarolle in F-sharp Major, an emotionally eclectic work written three years before his death. Next comes the Polonaise No. 5 in F-sharp minor, an 1841 piece widely referred to as the tragic polonaise due to its dark, melancholic nature, before the pianist presents the famous Mazurkas, a set of four pieces which were published in 1837. The first part of the concert will then be concluded with the Danse macabre, a legendary tone poem originally written for orchestra in 1874 by Camille Saint-Saëns. Shortly after, the work was transcribed for piano solo by Franz Liszt, which is the version that Kiyone shall interpret this evening. The pianist will then return after the interval with Chopin’s Scherzo No. 2 in B-flat minor, followed by the Polish composer’s Nocturne in E major, the second of a set of two nocturnes that mark Chopin’s final compositions in the genre. The concert will then come to a close with two pieces from Liszt – the Sonetto 104 del Petrarca, and the Totentanz (Dance of the Dead): Paraphrase on Dies irae.
