DENIS KOZHUHKIN

On Sunday 28th April, the renowned pianist Denis Kozhuhkin, First Prize Winner of the 2010 Queen Elisabeth Competition, will present a solo recital at Dubai Opera Studio as part of the VIP Classical concert series, organised by SAMIT Event Group. The evening will open with Sergei Prokofiev’s 1935 Music for Children, Op.65, an enchanting composition that masterfully captures the innocence, joy, and spirit of childhood. Next comes contemporary composer Alexey Shor’s Piano Sonata No. 2, a work in three movements that expounds Shor’s trademark neoclassical approach, maintaining the primacy of lyricism and melody while exploring its themes with a modern viewpoint. After the interval, the maestro turns to Robert Schumann’s 1838 Kinderszenen, Op. 15, a set of charming pieces that have been described as “a touching tribute to the eternal, universal memories and feelings of childhood”. The pianist then concludes with Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Children’s Album, Op. 39, from 1878, which itself was originally inspired by Schumann’s Kinderszenen.
